Blue Mother were at one time, the only blues/rock band in Orkney, and were weekly regulars in the local pubs. The band, comprising Ian Cooper on lead guitar, Ian Farquhar on bass, and...well, three drummers over time...formed in 1998 with lead singer, Leah Seator (then Johnston), who was a fresh faced 16-year-old, with a passion for the blues.
Together, they took on some of the best/blues rock classics and put their own slant on them, creating a riotous, raw sound. They were loud, bolshy, often drunk, and whipped up a storm on many an Orkney night out. Blue Mother supported bands such as The Commitments and Blues 'n' Trouble, played south on many occasions, and played at the very first Orkney Blues Festival. Eventually, The dreaded seven year itch led the musicians on different paths, but now they return, for one weekend, to revisit the mayhem of their gigging days as a band.
Blue mother are pleased to welcome on board a guest drummer - their fourth to date - Dylan pepper, formerly of Mean Business, Bad Taste, and current drummer of Alpha Dixie.
Regretfully, the bands longest serving drummer, George drever was unavailable to play, but sends his best to all concerned, and has been "beating out the old classics" on his kit in Dollar, at the mere suggestion of a reunion.
Prepare to hit the Rocky Mountain Way, drink from the Wishing Well, and join Blue Mother, as they revisit the Crossroads for one last time, at the Orkney Blues Weekend, 2011.
